Char Dham Yatra – A Journey towards divine
The Chardham of Uttrakhand constitutes of the divine pilgrimage sites of Yamunotri, Gangotri, Kedarnath, and Badrinath. Every year thousands of devotees come to seek blessings to these dreams that are revered as highly sacred in the Hindu culture.
Yamunotri Dham is dedicated to the River Goddess Yamuna who is said to be the sister of Yama, the God of death. It is known for its glacier and hot springs. A dip in the Yamuna is said to protect the devotees from untimely death.
Gangotri, as the name suggests is the Dham dedicated to the mighty Ganga. It is believed to be the place where Ganga descended on the Earth. Gangotri glacier is visible from here. The serene landscape and crystal clear water of the Ganga makes it one of the most important Dham.
Dedicated to Lord Shiva, Kedarnath is the northernmost Jyotirlinga in India. It is said that the Pandavas desired Lord Shiva’s blessings to atone their sins after the war of Mahabharata. Lord Shiva was trying to avoid them but they followed him anyway. At last, Shiva dived into the surface and left his hump behind, the point where the temple is said to have been built.
Located between the Nar and Narayana mountains, Badrinath Dham is dedicated to Lord Vishnu. It said that while Lord Vishnu meditated here, his wife, Goddess Lakshmi took the form of a berry tree to provide him with shade
